REMEMBERING

Saying Goodbye

Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Their bright eyes are intent; their eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to run from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross over The Rainbow Bridge together....

We will miss you, Chanel ... see you at the bridge ... God called Chanel home today. Thoughts and prayers are with her Family. Candles lit in Ottawa.

October 27, 2010

We will miss you Bide-a-Wee Girl ... see you at the bridge ... God called Mousie Girl home tonight. She was running and playing, doing what she does best. Then, suddenly, it was her time to go. Our love to Janet & Gene who are shocked and hurting so much right now.

Bart's Memorial, in the words of his family, to come soon.

Pantoufle (Toofer)

Losing Toof was a pain like no other I had experienced.  In rescue, dogs pass on and we hurt, we cry for the loss, we grieve with all of our being, we let them go knowing we had made the difference.  It is an honourable grief.  We had never had to let go of one of our very own and when we were faced with the decision to let her go with what dignity she had left, it was something totally different.  After an extremely horrible life-we had the honour of having her as our very own for her last months and she touched us in a way that is undescribable.  She reminded us to live every day as if it were our last-most of all she taught us forgiveness.  We are incredibly grateful for the time we had with her.  "Softly she came into our lives, and stole our hearts away."

Ella

It has taken some time to be able to post this tribute to Ella-as it was extremely painful for all of us to let her go-especially her family.  While we worked hard to get her eyes fixed, we didn't know that cancer was claiming her slowly each day. Her spirit never waivered, her tail never stopped.  She loved everyone to the very end-and even though she went to the Bridge too soon, she will always be fondly remembered. A special thank you to Kelsey, Gordy, Josh, Jayden and Dakota for loving her so much-even through her illness at the end that eventually took her from us, all she ever knew from you was love-and for that, CRT is forever grateful.

Rest Willy
Willy Wonka

Seen here with his best friend Mavi, Willy was a sweet old soul that lived every day of his little life to the ripe old age of 9.  He loved his hammock, and just lounging around.  We will all miss his antics and extend our condolences to Shannon for giving him the life he so deserved for his last days.

Carma

The Donegans, an amazing foster family that is very special to me lost a dear member of their furry family earlier this summer.  Carma, the ferret was taken from us very suddenly, when she developed a blockage that was not operable.  She was the source of entertainment for all of the foster dogs that came and went-especially "Mac Truck" as she was lovinglyy called by Pat.  Casey her canine brother lost his buddy-and Shannon, who was Carma's mum lost a friend.  We all miss the little monkey in her hammock.  She is on the Bridge now teasing all the dogs!

Dino

Dino came into CRT, unbeknownst to us, a very sick boy.  Despite his illness and the pain he must have had, he was a wonderful friend and companion and was loved by all who met him.  He went to his forever home soon after coming into the rescue-but only lived a short time after extensice surgeries were done to try and help him.  His forever family still miss him every day and feels the pain of his loss.  The CRT would like to thank his forever family for loving him and giving him the chance to know what love truly felt like-he only got the best from you all.

Kartoush

Never before have I met a dog, so regal, and poised. Kartoush went to the bridge on March 16th 2009 with his loving family by his side after a short battle with cancer. The Canine Rescue Team would like to offer their heartfelt condolences to Miguel, Chantal, Daisy and foster sister Kira-who, though only knowing him a short time, certainly benefited from his deep soulful presence and kind gentle nature. He will be missed, but is happy on the bridge with all of the other dogs who are no longer in pain. We know he will be watching over Kira when she has her surgery on April 7th 2009, and will make sure she will come through wonderfully. You were a shining example Kartoush-thank you for the opportunity to get to know you. Rest well sweet boy.

Tyson

In any instance, a dog passing on will take a small piece of your heart with them when they go. Earlier this month, a key member of the Canine Rescue Team, Kelsey and her family lost their beloved boy, Tyson, in a freak accident. Tyson, was very special to all of us- he was a true example of a kindred spirit. He welcomed dogs into his home as fosters with no fuss-he helped them heal from the tradgedy of their lives before-having suffered abuse at the hands of his previous owners. He was often pre-judged because of his breed-but there was no finer dog that I have known-who loved everyone-adults, kids and animals alike. Our hearts ache for Kelsey and her family-who lost their best friend and companion that awful day. We know that he is on the bridge, wagging down at us-but we miss him so.

Titan

We said goodbye to our "Big Boy" Titan Friday, Octobder 31st, 2008.. God called him home, and his incredible foster parents (who had actually become his forever family) held him while he went with the angels. He was brave and noble, a perfect gentleman until the very end with his warm eyes, forgiving heart and gigantic paws! As he passed, there was a peaceful glint in his eyes and a smile on his face as he was welcomed onto the bridge where his pain would be no longer and all the hurt he had endured in his life before coming into rescue was forgotten. He was truly a special soul that will be with us, every moment of every day and we thank Janet for allowing us to rescue him for this brief time he had left. In the words of his Dad, Frank: "Titan showed us all what it means to truly be a good boy." The CRT would like to thank Jen and Frank for giving Titan joy for the first time in his hard life. You are both shining examples of why we do what we do.

Barkley

"There are two important days in a person's life-the day we are born, and the day we realize why"-William Barclay

Perhaps it is not coincidence that this dog beared the name "Barkley". Lovingly called Romeo by his forever family Sophie, Shelsey, Gaby and Patch, he came by this roll honestly-a true gentleman-never far from his Lady love's side. He will be missed dearly.

Amber

Surrendered to an area rescue that specialized in senior dogs, this spry 16 year old apricot poodle lived her days out being part of a loving family that treated her like the special angel that she was. She was taken suddenly, and the CRT would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Sue, the kids, and Hopeful Hearts dog rescue in Ottawa. We all loved Amber, and knew how special she was. We are sure she is with the other dogs on the Bridge, enjoying the warm sunlight and fluffy clouds to sleep on..rest well dear Amber.
